Saxophany - About Us
Stuart and myself came together professionally over
the love of good music and having the irresistible urge to
play it. So back in 2002 we formed what is now known as
“Saxophany”. We play for all kinds of functions or events,
give us a reason and we’ll be there playing away to our
hearts content. The music we play is the music we love, so
much more than just hitting the right notes is giving
passion and joy of bringing what we do to share with
everyone else. We are completely self contained, we bring
our own P.A. and are at home in any size of venue. We can be
very in obtrusive when needed or alternatively we can lay on
more of a performance and get the party started.
Michael
Hurst - Although we perform
under the name of Saxophany I am versatile on many different
instruments and where the piece allows I will pick up my
clarinet or flute and breath life into it.
The style that I like to play as one half of Saxophany
ranges from modern pop tunes through traditional standards
to some of the big band swing and jazz numbers. Working with
Stuart gives me a chance to harmonise on the numbers,
bringing a greater depth and richness to the music we play.
I started my musical learning when I was about 10 years old
joining the local Brass Band with the rest of my family then
progressing onto the saxophone, flute, clarinet and
keyboards doing exams along the way, as you can guess my
favourite being the alto saxophone over the years I have
played with different genre of music styles from pop, blues
Irish folk through to big band. I work during the week as a
private music teacher teaching from 6 year olds to 60 + both
for pleasure and also for exams. This I equally love doing
as its passes on to others my joy in the wonderful world of
music. I also write and arrange music in my spare time. I am
actively involved in our local rehearsal big band were I
arrange and conduct the band at a number of our village
events.

Andrews
- I started to learn the saxophone with Michael from scratch
over 15 years ago playing with his saxophone trio, quartet,
quintet and also the rehearsal band as I became more
proficient on my instrument I was asked by my family if I
would play for a golfing dinner, being nervous I asked
Michael if he would join me, he agreed, we found that we
both enjoyed playing together in this format so we started
Saxophony and over the years I have played with other bands
to gain more and more experience but still working closely
with Michael and Saxophany.
